The Volkswagen Polo may be a thing of the past, but there are numerous stories about this premium hatchback that can be found on the internet. While some have raised concerns about the ownership costs and reliability of the Polo, as well as Volkswagen in general, Most of them have praised the quality and safety of this hatchback.

One customer, Punit Gupta, shares his ownership experience of a 13-year-old Volkswagen Polo in a YouTube video by Daksh Agnihotri. In the video, Gupta claims to have driven the Polo for 1.90 lakh km without any issues throughout the entire 13 years of ownership, which challenges the criticisms and renders them irrelevant in the real world.

Gupta describes how he purchased a base-spec Volkswagen Polo Trendline petrol with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, 75 PS engine. Prior to this purchase, he had initially booked a Hyundai i10 but canceled the booking after test driving the German hatchback . The video showcases Gupta’s high level of satisfaction with the quality, safety, and reliability of the Polo, even after driving it for nearly 2 lakh km. He praises the smooth, refined, and vibration-free driving experience that the Polo continues to offer.

Expensive maintenance

In the video, Gupta acknowledges the negative experiences some have had with high ownership and maintenance costs of the Polo over the years. However, he emphasizes that following Volkswagen’s service protocols and intervals ensures a hassle-free ownership experience, with no major issues. Advises that cars like the Volkswagen Polo should be serviced only at authorized service centers to maintain their quality.

Gupta also commends the Polo’s build quality, stating that it still surpasses similarly-priced cars of the current era. The video concludes with Gupta expressing his satisfaction with the ownership experience of the Polo, and he mentions that he would consider upgrade ing to a new Taigun GT, but only if his Polo encounters serious mechanical or electrical issues. Such ownership experiences indicate that owning a Volkswagen is not expensive if the car is regularly maintained and serviced according to the company’s guidelines.
