Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 GR-S: How is it different from this range?
Starting from the new variant of the Land Cruiser GR, this model will focus more on off-roading than the standard Land Cruiser LC300. The difference in appearance will start with the Land Cruiser GR-S, which is expected to be equipped with a mesh-shaped front grille, improved bumpers, 18-inch wheels and unique decorative finishes in the cabin.
Mechanically, the Land Cruiser GR-S will get front and rear locking differentials, as well as a new generation of Toyota Dynamic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS). The system currently has a hydraulic system to control the vehicle’s stabilizer bar, thereby helping to improve stability and body roll at a certain speed, while allowing greater wheel articulation at lower speeds. It is expected that the new generation system in the LC300 will abandon the current hydraulic setting of KDSS and adopt an electronically controlled system.
The equipment may also conform to the higher specification Land Cruiser LC300.
Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: Expected features and equipment
The standard LC300 is expected to be equipped with up to five variants-four standards, including the aforementioned GR-S in some markets. All variants may be equipped with four-wheel drive, and higher variants of two-row or three-row models may be available. The lower variant will be lost on some hardware. It is said that the basic version will be equipped with a 9.0-inch touch screen, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and fabric decorations and other accessories, and optional additional components, including a rear lock differential, a larger touch screen and a unique biometric fingerprint scanner. Start the engine.
Higher versions will add packages such as 20-inch wheels, torque-sensing limited-slip differential, leather upholstery, electric and ventilated seats, electric tailgate, as well as the aforementioned fingerprint scanner, optional terrain mode, and adaptive Suspension, four-wheel drive zone climate control, rear seat entertainment package, 360-degree camera, 3D terrain view monitor with bottom camera, enabling the driver to see obstacles hidden in the hood, etc.
In terms of safety, the Land Cruiser is expected to use Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 driver assistance system and other technologies, which can be bundled with radar cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic braking.
The spy pictures of the SUV also hinted that although the extent of the standard LC300’s changes is still unclear, the 70th anniversary special edition will also enter certain markets.
Toyota Land Cruiser LC300: Engine and powertrain options
The LC300 will be powered by a V6 turbo gasoline engine and a diesel engine, while the V8 of the current generation SUV will be discontinued. The current LC200 can choose V8 gasoline-the displacement varies from 4.6 to 5.7 liters, depending on the market, and is also equipped with 4.5 liters of V8 diesel. Some markets have also chosen the smaller 4.0-liter V6 gasoline.
The gasoline model is expected to use the new 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo gasoline, while the diesel is said to use the new 3.3-liter V6 rolling mill. The diesel is said to output 306hp and 700Nm of torque, while the gasoline outputs 415hp and 650Nm of torque. Interestingly, these outputs make the performance of the new LC300 stronger than the outgoing LC200 gasoline and diesel V8 models. In contrast, the 5.7-liter V8 in the LC 200 produces 386hp and 544Nm of torque, while the 4.5-liter V8 diesel produces 272hp and 650Nm of torque.
It is expected that gasoline hybrid models will be added to the lineup at a later stage.
Toyota Land Cruiser India
Although Toyota did sell the LC200 and Prado in India for a few years, the production of these two SUVs was discontinued during the transition to BS6 emission standards. The new LC300 gasoline is expected to be put into production in July 2021, among which GR-S and diesel models will be put into production in September. It is not yet certain whether the new LC300 will be launched in India, although one might expect Toyota or Lexus to launch this model at a later date-the LC200-based LX SUV will also be replaced by a new generation of models. Based on LC300.
