Tesla’s electric car models are certified in India

Tesla’s Indian market access Imminent. The Indian market plan of the American electric car manufacturer clearly shows that, as shown by the Indian government vehicle certification portal Vahan Sewa, four Tesla models have been certified or approved for use on Indian roads.

What does certification mean?

Certification is the process of proving that a particular vehicle is suitable for use on the road and meets certain specific standards set by the government for all vehicles manufactured or imported in the country. Essentially, the test ensures that the vehicle meets the requirements of the Indian market in terms of emissions, safety and road seaworthiness, as well as compliance with the Central Motor Vehicle Regulations.

What does this mean for Tesla India?

This means that Tesla’s Indian unit-Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd-has received approval to produce or import four models. On August 30, the Tesla Club of India wrote on Twitter: “Tesla has completed the certification and approval of 4 models in India. Although we have not yet confirmed any names, these may be Model 3 & Y type variant”.

Tesla’s current international lineup also includes Model Car and X type SUV, although the automaker has not officially confirmed which products it will launch and when.
