The Realme Pad came out only four months ago, but the company has already dealt a huge blow to its shelf life. Realme’s first tablet launched with Android 11, and it’s reasonable to expect it to launch Android 12 at least in the future.
However, in an FAQ on the company’s community forums, a representative said the device won’t get any major OS updates as the company will focus on supporting its smartphones.
The post does clarify that security and performance updates will still be delivered to the Realme Pad. The rather disappointing news is that we really liked the tablet when we reviewed it, and even in its price range, it would be sad to see it fall victim to outdated software.
Realme didn’t give an explanation either, but we suspect the outdated Helio G80 chipset may have limited support for the Android 12 update, making updating the tablet a bigger problem. But we don’t have any official statement, so this could be a completely different question.
