What you see here is KiaSurf-based off-road vehicle concept Kia Soul EV. Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition is not for production, but it celebrates the brand’s partnership with the British music festival Boardmasters. More importantly, this concept was created from an archetype of a soul that was once bound by a garbage dump, or more precisely, “recycling.”

  • One-time concept to get serious off-road hardware
  • Retain 64kWh remote battery pack and 201hp electric motor
  • After the Kia Stinger GT420, the second pre-production car to be recycled

Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition-what is it?

Kia has added some heavy off-road hardware to this Boardmasters Edition. The concept car uses 16-inch Maxxis Bighorn sand tires, and the ride height is increased to more than twice its standard ground clearance. The front is increased from 153 mm to 310 mm, and the rear is 320 mm.

The car received a custom steel roof rack made of lightweight steel tubes that can accommodate two 7-foot 9-inch surfboards mounted on the roof. The frame increases the height of the Soul to 1950 mm, which is 255 mm higher than the Kia Sorento, the largest in the UK.

A separate solar panel is installed on the 12V leisure battery and is located above the surfboard to power a pair of Lazer ST4 Evolution LED spotlights, mini refrigerators and other auxiliary equipment.

Inside the car, the rear bench seats have been removed, the luggage compartment has been enlarged, and a wooden deck made of PEFC-certified spruce is installed behind the driver and passenger seats. This is dyed white to add a “more relaxed seaside atmosphere” to the cabin, and a pair of wetsuits or towels can be hung using the outer swing arm.

The front of the cabin is the same as the standard Soul, equipped with a 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker Harman/Kardon premium audio system.

However, the Boardmasters Edition concept retains the standard 64kWh remote battery and 201hp electric motor of the standard Soul EV. We will also admit that the Neptune blue lacquer with contrasting white wheels, accessories and decals makes this Soul EV truly stand out.
