This Volkswagen Tai Chi It will be a participant in the entry of German automakers into the Indian mid-size SUV segment.Tai Chi is actually its sister model Skoda Kushaq Set as Launch in June 2021, Because these two SUVs share the same MQB-A0-IN platform.
Since the launch of the Volkswagen Taigun will also take place in the next few months, we have compiled a list of all the points about the upcoming SUV.
1. Its design will be completely different from Skoda’s design
Since Volkswagen Taigun will share its platform with Skoda Kushaq, the two SUVs will have many parts such as doors, roofs and glass houses. However, Volkswagen is also doing its best to ensure that Taigun has its own identity. This is very obvious when you look at Taigun’s one-piece headlights, two slatted chrome grilles and chrome inserts on the lower part of the bumper, which fits very well with the current design language of the German automaker. Even at the rear, Taigun’s taillight clusters are spread across the width of the tailgate and the chrome trim on the rear bumper, distinguishing it from Kushaq.
There are also some subtle differences inside. The AC vents are designed differently, and the infotainment screen is cleverly integrated into the dashboard instead of a stand-alone unit like Kushaq. However, the overall layout of the two SUVs is the same.
2. Well-equipped
In terms of equipment, Taigun will be equipped with many features to increase its appeal to buyers. Top-spec models will be equipped with a 10-inch touch screen infotainment system (for access to connected car functions) with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and My Volkswagen connect apps. Another major feature inside will be the digital dashboard (virtual cockpit), which is something the Kushaq brothers and sisters missed. In addition, kits will be provided, such as automatic climate control, USB Type-C port, wireless charging pad, etc.
Taigun will also be equipped with a series of safety features, such as 6 airbags, ESC (standard configuration for all decorations), tire pressure deflation warning and ISOFIX child seat fixing device.
3. It will be equipped with two turbo gasoline engines
Volkswagen will offer two turbo-gasoline engine options in the TSI series of engines for the new Taigun model. One will be a 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI unit with output of 115hp and 175Nm, and the other will be a larger 1.5-liter four-cylinder TSI unit with output of 150hp and 250Nm. Both engines will be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, they will get different automatic transmission options, where 1.0 TSI gets a 6-speed torque converter and 1.5 TSI gets a 7-speed DCT automatic.
4. Will be smaller in size than many of its competitors
Given that Volkswagen Taigun and Kushaq are almost the same in size, these two SUVs will be the smallest products in their market segments. The Taigun is about 4.2m long, 1.76m wide, and 1.6m high, which is much smaller than the Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks. Considering that the high-end models in this market segment have models such as MG Hector and Tata Harrier, they make all other models indistinguishable, so the difference in size will be more obvious. You can read our Skoda Kushaq specifications comparison To understand how Taigun will compare in terms of size and powertrain.
5. It will compete with some of India’s most popular SUVs
Once launched, Volkswagen Taigun will be positioned in the mid-size SUV field, which is one of the most popular market segments in India. It will be like Skoda Kushaq (Skoda Kushaq), Kia Sellos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan kick, Renault Dusit with MG Hector. Due to its high level of localization, Volkswagen is expected to be quite competitive in SUV pricing.
