2022 Kia Lions Run: What’s new outside?
In Sportage’s 28-year life cycle, Kia confirmed for the first time that European-specific variants (except for North American and ASEAN specifications) will arrive in September, but from a visual point of view, it will be closely related to the version revealed here. The customized chassis tuning and slightly modified styling will make it unique, and it will be exclusively manufactured in Slovakia.
Sportage is the second mass-produced model after the new Kia EV6, which is designed under Kia’s new “Opposites United” concept. The relationship between Sportage and the new flagship electric car can be seen in the shared elements, including its unique “boomerang” headlights, concave trunk lid, swollen rear arches and prominent spoilers. It was designed in collaboration with Kia’s South Korean, German, American and Chinese design centers.
Sportage provides a contrasting roof for the first time, and the chrome waistline is said to “form a harmonious line with the rear spoiler, further increasing the car’s sporting pedigree.” The new Sportage X-Line will also be launched soon, bringing a solid body shape and curved roof rack, but it has not yet been confirmed in the UK or Europe.
2022 Kia Lions: What’s new inside?
Inside, Sportage gets a curved digital display, a new touch-screen infotainment display and a series of “light touch” tactile switches on the glossy-finished center console. Kia claims to use “the highest quality materials” throughout to ensure that the Mk5 Sportage “is a special place to kill time.”
Kia Sportage 2022: Engine and powertrain options
Kia has not specified any available powertrains for Sportage, although it may follow the closely related and recently updated Hyundai Tucson, acquiring a series of petrol engines based on 1.6-liter mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid systems.
