Welcome back and happy new year! It may only be 7 days, but 2022 starts with a flurry of announcements, so let’s recap the most notable ones.
It’s no surprise that Samsung has finally unveiled the long-awaited Galaxy S21 FE. It has a design inspired by the Galaxy S21 series, a Snapdragon 888 chipset in most regions (Australia is one exception), and One UI 4 with Android 12 out of the box. The camera setup looks recycled from last year’s FE model, as does the 4,500 mAh battery with 25W charging. The €750/£700 price tag is a bit of a headache, but we’ll have to wait and see if it can come close to the sales figures of last year’s FE model.
CES 2022 passed us by with plenty of announcements from companies like Intel, AMD, HMD, and TCL. Another pair of new phones from vivo have released color-changing backs for their V23 and V23 Pro. We got review units of both and were impressed with the Pro model’s design – head over to our review article to read more about it.
Realme and its GT2 series are also official. The pair brings a newly developed bio-based polymer back design with a paper-like feel. The Pro model comes with a fancy new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, while the vanilla relies on last year’s Snapdragon 888.
Xiaomi brought its 11i HyperCharge to India with 120W charging power, while OnePlus confirmed it will launch the 10 Pro flagship on January 11. The iQOO 9 series also debuted with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip and BMW M styling.
That’s all there is to the first week of 2022, adjust exactly 7 days later to see what happens in week 2.
