- Figo 1.2-liter petrol gets an automatic transmission for the first time
- Ford will also launch an updated EcoSport later this year
Ford Figo Auto: What you need to know
Unlike the previous iteration of the automatic transmission with a larger displacement gasoline engine, this time the device borrowed from EcoSport is used with the existing 1.2-liter gasoline engine.
The 1.2-liter engine currently provides 96 horsepower and 119 Nm of torque, and provides healthy performance and a powerful mid-range at high engine speeds, but lacks low-end response. The new torque converter can help conceal this weak bottom end, making the car feel more sensitive in the trough.
To recap briefly, since its launch in 2015, Figo has previously offered an automatic transmission option. At the time of its launch, the gasoline automatic gearbox Figo was powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that could provide a 110hp dual-clutch automatic transmission gearbox. When the facelift came out in 2019, it was replaced by a torque converter unit when Ford introduced a more powerful 1.5-liter Dragon gasoline engine. However, this option has been removed when the hatchback was upgraded to meet the BS6 specification.
The new gasoline-automatic engine-gearbox combination may be offered on a medium-spec titanium trim, just like the redesigned BS4 hatchback, although Ford can also provide the device on a fully loaded model. The cost of the automatic transmission variant is expected to be much higher than that of the manual transmission.
Ford Figo automatic transmission: competitors
The new Figo automatic transmission will fight against competitors, such as Maruti Swift with Hyundai Grand i10 NiosBoth Maruti and Hyundai are powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine and are paired with a 5-speed AMT transmission on certain models. Ford is also preparing an updated EcoSport for the Indian market, which is expected to be launched later this year.
