According to one of the most trusted Apple analysts, Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on its own foldable iPhone and will be ready in 2023. The report also has some specifications for us.
With the help of some industry sources, Kuo was able to scoop up some supplier information. For example, the display is approximately 8 inches diagonal when unfolded, giving it a QHD + resolution. The supplier will be Samsung again, but it will use the silver nanowire touch technology developed by TPK because it has attractive advantages over Samsung’s Y-Octa approach. The shipping target for the foldable device is believed to be between 15 and 20 million units.
According to kuo-
At present, the product position of foldable smartphones is mainly to integrate the smartphone and tablet. But we believe that the foldable smartphone is only one of the applications of the foldable design. We predict that foldable devices will blur the product segmentations between smartphones, tablets, and laptops in the future. With its cross-product ecosystems and hardware design advantages, Apple will be the biggest winner in the new foldable device trend.
The report also mentions other competing brands such as Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Honor. All of them will participate in a total of about 17 million units of foldable races by the end of this year or the beginning of the next race.
But keep in mind, even with Kuo, the news is very speculative and Apple can easily scrape off all foldable plans if the market doesn’t adopt the new form factor.
