Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard-what is it?

Well, this is not an ordinary S-class car, because the design of the S680 Guard has obtained the VPAM VR10 certification, which is the highest ballistic protection level for civilian vehicles. This means that S680 Guard can withstand gunshots and even explosions.

Now, S680 Guard is not only equipped with protective materials integrated into conventional S-class cars. Instead, the engineers completely remodeled the entire body of the car to provide greater resistance than the previous version of the S-Class Guard model.

For example, polycarbonate windows are up to 10 cm thick and use multiple layers of glass. This car uses Michelin PAX run flat tires and can travel 30 kilometers even after a puncture. The S680 Guard also has hydraulic windows, which means they can still work even if the on-board electronics fails during an attack.

In the worst case, S680 Guard is even equipped with a built-in oxygen tank and fire extinguisher. Of course, all of this is in addition to the affluence that the regular S-Class already provides. S680 Guard continues a large number of digital screens and rich, luxurious leather and wood trim. It can be used in four-seater or five-seater configurations.

The S680 Guard is based on the long wheelbase version of the S-Class, plus all additional armor, and weighs up to 4,200 kg, which is almost twice that of the standard S-Class. Mercedes-Benz even had to recalibrate the gearbox and steering system to better handle the increased weight.

Mercedes-Benz S680 Guard: What’s under the hood?

The S680 Guard is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine that can produce 604hp and 830Nm of torque. S680 Guard is the only model in the S-Class series equipped with a V12 engine except the Maybach S-Class. Interestingly, the Maybach S-class engine produces slightly more torque at 900Nm. The engine is used in conjunction with a 9-speed automatic transmission to power all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4Matic system. The maximum electronic speed limit of S680 Guard is 190kph.
