In terms of size, all the SUVs here are around 4.5 meters. However, MG (4,720mm) is the longest, while Hyundai (4,500mm) is the shortest in this comparison. Tata Safari is the widest (1,894 mm) and tallest (1,786 mm) in the batch. In both respects, it beat the Mahindra XUV500 with a width of 1,890 mm and a height of 1,785 mm. However, the new Hyundai Alcazar has the largest wheelbase (2,760 mm), which is 10 mm larger than the closest competitor in this regard, the MG Hector Plus. Finally, all top-spec SUVs here are equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels.

Manual gearbox | 6 speed | 6 speed | 6 speed | 6 speed |
automatic transmission | 6-speed torque converter | 6-speed torque converter | not applicable | 6-speed torque converter |
All competitors use four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines. However, Mahindra has the largest displacement engine with a displacement of 2.2 liters. The diesel engine of XUV500 can also produce the maximum torque, reaching 350Nm. At the same time, both Tata and MG use 2.0-liter engines from Fiat. Although the torque may be reduced compared to Mahindra’s engine, Safari and Hector Plus have the most powerful engines that can produce 170 horsepower.
In this comparison, Hyundai Alcazar has the smallest diesel engine, which is reflected in its output. Compared with other models, the power (115hp) and torque (250Nm) are significantly reduced.
In terms of gearboxes, all SUVs here are equipped with a 6-speed manual device. In addition to MG Hector Plus, they can also choose an automatic 6-speed torque converter. It is also worth noting that all these SUVs are only front-wheel drive. XUV500 previously offered all-wheel drive options, but it was discontinued when it transitioned to BS6.

Manual gearbox | 6 speed | 6 speed |
automatic transmission | 6-speed torque converter | 6-speed dual-clutch/8-speed CVT |
In this comparison, only Alcazar and Hector Plus are equipped with gasoline engine options. Alcazar’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine has a larger displacement and is naturally aspirated, while Hector Plus’s smaller 1.5-liter engine uses forced induction. The modern gasoline device is more powerful than the MG, with an output of 159 hp compared to 143 hp, while the MG’s engine torque is greater, producing 250 Nm compared to the modern 191 Nm.
MG also upgraded Hyundai by providing a 48V mild hybrid power system, but this can only be used with a 6-speed manual transmission. MG Hector Plus gasoline also offers dual-clutch automatic transmissions and CVT automatic transmissions. At the same time, Hyundai Alcazar can be equipped with a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission.

Gasoline range | 16.30-1985 lakh rupees | not applicable | 13.63-19.18 lakh rupees | not applicable |
Diesel series | 16.53-20.00 lakh | 14.99-218.1 lakh rupees | 15.04-196.1 lakh rupees | 14.13-199.6 lakh rupees |
Hyundai priced the gasoline version of Alcazar at Rs 1,630 to 1985 million, and the diesel version at Rs 1,653 to 20 million. Compared with competitors, this is considered quite competitive. Of course, the difference between Alcazar and Hector Plus gasoline at the entry level is Rs 267,000, but at the high end, the difference is reduced to Rs 67,000. As far as the diesel engine is concerned, Alcazar once again has the highest starting price, but it is not the highest specification diesel engine form of the most expensive SUV here. The premium Alcazar diesel is 181,000 rupees cheaper than the top Safari, and only 4,000 rupees and 39,000 rupees more expensive than the top models of Hector Plus and XUV500. In addition, Alcazar is also equipped with panoramic sunroofs, digital instrument clusters, second-row wireless charging and artificial leather interiors and other functions, and is also supported by Hyundai’s extensive after-sales network nationwide. However, it is worth noting that Alcazar’s price is temporarily introductory and will be adjusted upwards in due course.
So, this is how the new Hyundai Alcazar competes with competitors on paper. But how does it compare to competitors on the road? This is a question that we can only answer after an in-depth and comparative review of the batches in the real world.
